moi, moi, moi

First and foremost, I love simplifying things down.

As much as I appreciate the complexity about just anything, but I love the beauty encapsulated in simplicity.

I spent most of my childhood years in Bantayan Is. where I usually spend my afternoons watching sunset than watching TV.

these how I see things in a nutshell:

*riding a bike is more fun rather than driving a car.
*if I’m sad I usually go to a bus terminal and take a random ride than spend my whole savings to shopping
*I appreciate a mere “smile” than a million of “thank yous” when showing gratitude for a favor done.
*be more spontaneous and able to accomplished a lot than being so organized and left those planned
checklist undone.
*to accept things as it is, and brave enough to let go.
(however that’s only what I keep on telling my myself, in the contrary, I could easily get attached and it’s really hard for me to let go)
*I’m prone to see things in a lighter perspective yet always brace myself for the worse.
*I think it’s because the blood type running through my veins is B+
*I love science but could only listen to you about it. I only believe through faith and muses on creativity.
*I appreciate life even how confusing, painful and tiring it could get.

what I like/love:

*I’m into visual and literary surrealism
*I love sunset than sunrise
*open space, big windows, high ceiling, outdoors
*nature
*listening to Bjork,  Tchaikovsky  and Snow Patrol
*I love to be alone as much as I love companions
*I love Olympic sized swimming pools
*I love to dance, it’s the only thing I can do better (than singing, writing and whatsoever)
*I love to love and be loved (just like everybody else)

and dislike/hate:

*I hate it when my body needed some sleep but my mind is restless
*I hate denials and fakers
*I cringe when I see blood, and road kill (I always see dead cats on the road lately)
*I don’t like being bored as much as wasting time
*I don’t like being stuck in a traffic (unless if I have a mp3 player or a novel)
*I hate bossy people
*I hate getting hurt and don’t have the chance to get even

This is my core:

*aim quite sensitive, easy to get happy but could easily get sad.
*have a tendency to be bi-polar
*I have the gift to comfort people but I can’t help myself when I get hurt.
*my zodiac sign is Aries and somehow it kinda describes me
(but doesn’t mean it defines me)
*I’m kinda emotional, sensual and spiritual
*I’m both sociable and a loner
*a famous artist/mentor told me this before:
“Find to see the beauty that is lost in the world”
And I’m bound to accomplish that mission

ano daw?

a short clip for our Multimedia presentation. This video took me and my friends an hour to shoot and 3 hours to edit just for a 4 min video.

aside from my gibberish script, everything is just crazy!!!

hey listen, what can you say about Audio Media?

My first impression with audio media in education, in all honesty, was really boring. Maybe it doesn’t work for me. Take for example, I have several Berlitz audio book for Spanish and Japanese proficiency but they ended at the cul de sac of My Documents folders. As all I know is that audio is solely for MP3, and mp3 for me is your usual tracks that are constantly played on the loop.

Anyway, audio media, given with ample recognition and value, can actually brought forward better understanding and can maximize learning, and again this depends on the individual if this wouldn’t work then try other media as this is not a pre requisite but just an option. As we have to consider audio media as information that are or can not be limited to: tape, cassette, vinyl, radio mp3 player and the likes.

Mp3 player and radio, I’m fine with it, but cassette and vinyl? Haller?!

Anyway, I would love the idea of this university radio (which I haven’t tried listening to yet. What’s the frequency again?  DZUP  and UP-FM 87.5, right?) or even how DJs flirt with their unseen listeners, I think we can learn from them one thing or another even how one discussion can lead to stupidity or plain non sense.

The best way to utilize audio media is to pair it up with other visual related media, as again, we are all visual learners (as per the closing of the eyes and think about love then tell me what can you see moment) or you can actually listen to an audio book, with a cup of coffee (and a sin taxed cigarette perhaps) while watching the rain aimlessly outside the window.

wait! need to take my online exam, laters

People Media, who are they?

No doubt, there's a huge influence of the people media in education as these individuals are becoming an alternative mentors or facilitators for adults, students or even children whose position is to absorb and absorb information that could become integral lessons which later can be conceived within the parameters of this technologies such as TV, radio, blogs etc.

In that sense, people media should be aware of this power and be more responsible on the information that they relaying as this will be transmitted and exposed to a bigger populace. as these information can be received, processed, and be modified without any corrective measures.

Can only imagine some of the few things i could suggest. one of it would be letting my students access the recorded lectures from top universities such as Oxford, Cambridge, Harvard etc.

which could somehow intensify the individual's learning experience based on what field they wish to focus on specially in the world of arts.

If time and resources permit, we could arrange a field trip to TV or radio networks and museums across the metropolitan and try to have a quick yet thorough observation on what's really going on to these kind of establishments.

Lastly, would conduct training and collaborate with artists such as Marina Abromovic or Bjork for performance art workshop. since people media uses technology such as TV radio and internet, there's really no limit on where the "would be facilitator" is, as there's no more sky is the limit in the 21st century human convergence, as anything could be possible.

There are two kinds of Instructional Media Resources

traditional: very organic, can be physically feel and experience as this has a sense of realness. one of the strength that i could consider is that the experience is actual, thus it could fully penetrate ones psyche so the level of learning is more effective and more memorable. however most of them are transient such as paper back guide books, black board or even a flower for coloring.
digital: recently widespread and accessible but still limited to some (in a Philippine context or other developing countries). its strength would be it's more dynamic and interactive yet for me it's all about illusions. so learning through this media is all about watching a film rather than watching theater.

The advent of modern technology somehow turn the old traditional media into shadows but it doesn't mean that traditional media should be forgotten. for me there are some lessons that can be effectively taught by flash presentation, video or any computer related program, but if there's a need to focus on the holistic and longetivity of knowledge, my preference would be traditional media.

I must admit that i'm one of the pioneer "users" of media technology. let's set aside TV and radio,  but I'm one of those who started blogging when blogger.com was newly launched. i had my twitter account since 2007. Facebook? never mind. but these social media cum media technology were used to update friends and connect. in my case, it's sort of a personal biography or a journal since I'm on of those people who are "malilimutin" . i just simply love rereading what has transpired in my life.

But now these are used to simply say: "hey, i do exist". it makes me feel sad to the extend i wanna puke.

Anyway, since this is already a trend---
an inevitable cultural avalanche, then one would just join the fun whether you like it or not. its a yes yes situation since this is already happening, as a student and as a future teacher what i would like to attain is the responsibility of using these media as a tool for a unified humanitarian purposes.

Now, one would wonder if it is applicable to integrate media technology in your future classroom. It was said it's no longer a question anymore as this is how our future education is heading to. Just what Prof. Pitagan had done, will tweet when i can't attend my class. lol , nah just practicing my ill-witted humor.

Well, if my time and my  capability permits, i  will develop an app that coincide to their social media account for my class that turn into an alarm clock so they wouldn't miss my class and their assignments. again another lame joke.

Learning Theories

I consider the Holistic Theory as the foundation of my personal learning experience. Holistic theory adheres with the notion that individual personality consists of many elements e.g. the intellect, emotions, the body impulse (or desire) intuition and imagination. I believe there is a correlation between personality and learning. Thus, whatever I've learned since childhood and the things I want to learn while in the academe is mostly based on the sensory I can fully grasp. Personally, I could learn more effectively when all aspects of a person--mind, body and spirit--are involved in the experience.

As a future Art teacher, I would make use of the new techniques in teaching and will make sure not to lose the personal mentoring of each kid. Regular assessment or coaching is needed for them to be guided appropriately. Hands on experience is also vital in the fields of art, I can only imagine lists of activities we could do such as drawing, painting and pottery. I don't want to put any limitation on whatever the “best” technique and form or figure there is, I'm very much open to individuals' own preference and own imagination.

It would be the combination of these:

*learning by doing such as workshops. Workshops! Workshops! and workshops! (Never ending workshops. Action learning theory)

* through
reflections
(Experiential learning) and will have more time spending on realizing what we have learned and what could have been done to improve a certain skill or talent.

* Lastly, my favorite: Facilitation theory wherein I'll hone them by spending more time with them. As a facilitator, I will be inclined to pay attention on their experience and interaction with their co-learners. Will listen to their stories. Will give constructive criticism by providing negative and positive feedback in the most appropriate way.

21st Century Learning and Teaching

Teaching and learning, even how many hundreds of ways to do it and acquire it, still depends on your students or the target audience. I’m quite moved with the last speaker (I forgot her name, and was she a dean of a specific school? Well never mind) in a video: A Vision of 21st Century Teachers, she said something like there’s no way of keeping abreast with the 21st century student but to be at par with them in terms with the knowledge and technology savvy these children are.  Moreover, it would also be an advantage when one acquires the two premium skills which are: non routine thinking and complex communication.

Somehow I could relate with the school administrators in the video since, they grow up with the time when black boards are used instead of the promethean. Visual aids are manually done rather than flashing a ppt or prezi presentation. Pages of a Book need to be flipped than swiping your fingers. So going through these changes is, in a way, a major feat.

But again, we always end up with this question: Can we keep up? Or can these future students can respond appropriately with the goal that we have at hand which to prioritize “lesson learned” at the end of the day.
Now, let me tell you a story.

Cinderella has to go home before 12 midnight. yeah? And before she unintentionally or intentionally left her glass sandals did she ever think about her chores and has this conviction that she want to be a scullery maid---a domestic servant, forever? As demure and as flirt as she is, she still wanted to meet and marry the prince! Whatever it takes! (her animal friends, her fairy godmother etc)

And I guess, this also applies to us, as future teachers, we have to leap into these changes before it’s too late. So let’s start with what we have learned from the past, the traditional learning, and marry it with the advent of new technology and integrate them with teaching methods (which are already mentioned at the on set of this thread) that could enhance the holistic learning of the people of tomorrow.

And of course, I think it’s not that evil to sprinkle some magic.
